Tampa Bay Storm News Release
Spokane, Wa - The Spokane Shock defeated the Tampa Bay Storm, 69-57, to become ArenaBowl XXIII Champions in front of 11,017 fans at the Spokane Arena in Spokane, Wa.
It seemed to be the gruesome Jeremy Geathers sack, forcing a Brett Dietz fumble, which set the tone for the game. The loose ball was recovered by Shock defensive lineman Richard Clebert and returned 35-yards to the Storm's five yard line.
The turnovers continued to pile up for the Storm as Dietz threw two interceptions.
After opening the game with an Eric Ortiz rushing touchdown, the Storm played catch-up until the 15 second mark of the first half. A Terrence Royal six-yard rushing touchdown would put the Storm ahead 28-27.
The Shock would find the lead again with 10 seconds remaining in the first half on a Markee White 22-yard touchdown reception. The Shock would remain on top for the rest of the game and defeat the Storm 69-57.
Shock quarterback Kyle Rowley finished the game 24-of-32 with 9 passing touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown.
Shock wide receiver Markee White compiled 99 yards on 9 catches and 4 touchdowns in the victory.
Dietz finished the game 29-40 with 306 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also threw two interceptions.
Hank Edwards led Storm receivers with 11 receptions, 132 yards and 2 touchdowns.
