Spokane Chiefs News Release

Mike Reddington's goal at 3:20 of the second period brought 3,948 teddy bears from Chiefs faithful in the Chiefs annual Teddy Bear Toss presented by The Spokesman-Review Christmas Fund. The defenseman's first of the year helped the Chiefs to a 3- 1 win over the Swift Current Broncos.

The collected teddy bears will be distributed throughout the community through The Spokesman- Review's Christmas Bureau.

Offense was hard to find for Spokane in the first period with just four shots on goal for the Chiefs and a 1-0 deficit thanks to a goal by Levi Nelson of the Broncos.

Reddington's marker came on a give-and-go with Levko Koper, who sauced a pass to the 17-year-old who cut to the net and backhanded it stick side. Judd Blackwater then went five-hole on Travis Yonkman 29- seconds later for Spokane's first lead of the game. Chris Langkow and Tyler Johnson assisted on the play.

David Rutherford found Ondrej Roman all alone in front of the Swift Current net for his sixth of the season to help ice the game.

Spokane outshot Swift Current 24-20 on the night and won their 23rd game of the season. The Chiefs 49 points are tops in the WHL and four more than the Tri- City Americans in the U.S. Division, 4-1 winners on Saturday night.

The Chiefs will travel to Portland on Sunday night for the first half of a home-and-home with the Winter Hawks. Wednesday night, Spokane will host Portland on a TicketsWest Player Magnet Wednesday.

Tickets to all home games are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
