Spokane, WA: Sometimes the best offense is a great defense. In its longest road game of the season, the Spokane Shock traveled to Orlando and defeated the second-ranked Predators 70-58 Saturday night.
Spokane's defense yielded four stops that the Shock's offense cashed in for 21 points and helped it produce its highest point total of the season (70).
QB Kyle Rowley set the tone early on Spokane's first drive with a four-play 37 -yard drive that was capped off by a 13-yard TD reception by WR Shaun Kauleinamoku. On the ensuing drive, Predators' QB Nick Hill fumbled on his fourth play of the game that was recovered by Spokane's DL Jonathan Williams that put the Shock offense back in business.
Rowley capitalized on the opportunity with a six-play 49-yard drive and gave Kauleinamoku his second TD of the night on a 22-yard reception. Kauleinamoku turned in one of his best performances of the season and lead the team with 96 receiving yards on seven receptions, three of them for touchdowns.
After missing last week's game, WR Raul Vijil tied Kauleinamoku for the team lead in receptions (seven) and led the team with five touchdowns. WR's Greg Orton and Emery Sammons combined for nine receptions and 109 receiving yards.
For his part, Rowley completed 72% of his passes (23/32) for 293 yards and eight passing touchdowns. Rowley also added two rushing touchdowns, including Spokane's final score of the game.
The Shock defense applied relentless pressure all night long on Hill that resulted in a season-high four sacks. Micah King led the team with two sacks while LB Beau Bell and DL John Williams each added a sack of their own. Bell also forced two fumbles both of which were recovered by Spokane.
Hill finished the night with 356 all-purpose yards (299 passing and 57 yards rushing), and tied a season low of four passing touchdowns.
Predators WR Josh Bush filled in admirably for leading receiver TT Toliver making his first start of the season by leading Orlando's receiving corps in receptions (11), receiving yards (162) and touchdowns (three).
After Saturday night's victory over Orlando, the AFL's second-ranked team, the Shock will host the top-rated Arizona Rattlers on Saturday night April 30th in Spokane. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by contacting TicketsWest.
