Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
The red hot Tri-City Dust Devils and the Tri-Cities weather both cooled down on Monday night as the temperatures dipped, winds swirled, and the Spokane Indians defeated the Dust Devils 8-1 to avoid being swept at Gesa Stadium.
All signs pointed to the contest being decided in a pitcher's duel as Dust Devils starter Kenneth Durst went six strong innings, allowing just four hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out six. Indians starting pitcher Martin Perez held the Dust Devils scoreless over five innings.
Despite falling behind early, the Dust Devils were within striking distance as they trailed Spokane just 2-1 heading into the eighth inning. In the final two frames, the Indians would score six runs, with just one of them earned, to put the game out of reach.
Charlie Blackmon tied the Dust Devils single-season record of 84 hits with a bunt single in the eighth inning. Blackmon also extended his hitting streak to fourteen games.
Despite a strong performance, Durst (4-5) took the loss for the Dust Devils while Perez (2-1) picked up the win. Spokane (44-23) holds a five game lead over the Boise Hawks and a ten game lead over Tri-City (34-33) in the Northwest League Eastern Division.
The Dust Devils return home Friday night against Yakima. Tickets can be purchased at the Dust Devils box office, by phone at 544-8789, online at www.dustdevilsbaseball.com, and at all TicketsWest outlets. Season tickets, mini-plans, and group tickets are also available at the box office and over the phone.
