Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - The Vancouver Canadians bounced back from a 6-3 loss in the front end of a doubleheader Monday to win the second game 10-2 over the Aquasox out at Nat Bailey Stadium. With the win, Vancouver draws back into a tie for 3rd in the NWL West Division with the Everett Aquasox both sitting at 28-39.
The Canadians opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning when LF JD Pruitt hit a triple off of Aquasox starter LHP Eddy Fernandez followed by a single from 1B David Thomas giving Vancouver a 1-0 lead.
A three-run inning in the bottom of the 2nd extended the Vancouver lead to 4-0 including DH Mike Lissman's 6th home run of the season.
The Canadians scored in the bottom of the 3rd inning when 1B David Thomas led off the inning with a triple and was scored on a fielder's choice as 2B Francisco Tirado hit a sharp liner to Everett 2B Luis Nunez who had no shot at preventing the run from crossing the plate. The Canadians at that point had built up a 5-0 lead.
Vancouver blew the doors open in the bottom of the 5th inning when ten Canadians hitters came to the plate and managed five runs in the process including an RBI double from DH Mike Lissman giving the C's a 10-1 lead.
Everett picked up a run in the top of the 7th inning when pinch hitter Dennis Raben hit a double down the 3rd base line off of C's reliever RHP Jose Guzman scoring LF Tyson Gillies cutting the Vancouver lead to 10-2.
The Canadians got solid pitching from starter LHP Pedro Figueroa who went six innings scattering six hits while giving up just a lone run in the lopsided victory. NOTE: Figueroa struck out 9 to bring his total for the season to 67 which gives the native of Dominican Republic the league lead with nine games remaining on the season.
With the victory, the C's take the three-game series vs. Everett 2-1 and now gear up for a three-game series in Everett starting Tuesday at 7:05pm. Canadians RHP Mike Hart (0-1) goes to the mound in search of the team's second straight victory.
