Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Battle Creek, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters fell 8-3 to the Battle Creek Battle Jacks on Monday, but their magic number to clinch a postseason berth is down to one.

With Rockford's loss to Kenosha in game one of a doubleheader, the magic number shrank to just one. A Pit Spitter win would have clinched it today, but they only need one win or another Rockford loss with five games left in the season to punch their ticket.

The Battle Jacks took the 1-0 lead in the first but left the bases loaded. They came back in the second with a four-spot, aided by three Pit Spitter errors.

Evan Orzech got his team on the board with an infield single in the top of the fifth. Two batters later, Camden Traficante cut the lead to two with a two-run single.

But the Battle Jacks would strike with one more in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 6-3 game. They knocked in two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to regain their five-run lead, holding on for the win and delaying the Pit Spitters celebration.

The Battle Jacks have had the Pit Spitters number this season, improving their record to 7-4 against their in-state rivals with a run differential of 72-68.
