Windsor Spitfires News Release

The Spitfires would fail to capitalize on 5 powerplay chances which saw them fall to the Petes 6-2. The Petes would have 3 powerplay goals and an empty net goal.

The first period flew by very quickly. The Spitfires had 15 shots on goal to the Petes 12. The Spitfires had a powerplay opportunity or so it seemed, as the Petes would have more opportunities shorthanded. A late penalty on the Spitfires turned into good fortunes as they were able to break the deadlock. Across the Petes line came Peer on a 3 on 2, he fired a shot and the rebound landed right on the stick of DeAngelis who chipped in his 2nd of the season with 1:36 to play in the frame. The Spitfires would kill of the penalty and take a 1-0 lead to the dressing room.

In the second period, both teams would have 5 on 3 powerplay chances and fail to convert on them. The Petes would tie the game at 1 with a man advantage after the 5 on 3 chance expired. Less than 3 minutes later the Spitfires would restore the lead as Wright fed Maggio on a breakaway and he scored his league leading 43rd goal of the season. Late in the period the Petes would tie it at 2 with another powerplay goal. The Spitfires had a 30-28 shot advantage after 2 periods.

In the third period, the Petes would score just under halfway through the period to take their first lead of the game 3-2. With under 4 minutes to play the Petes would score on the powerplay to make it 4-2. The Petes would add two more and take this one 6-2.

The Spitfires have now dropped 2 in a row.

The Spitfires are back in action tomorrow (Friday) in Ottawa. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm.
