Windsor Spitfires News Release

WINDSOR, ON - The Spitfires first period trend continued in the preseason as the club fell down by 2 goals in the early going on Thursday evening. Another goal by the Firebirds in the final two minutes of the period would give them a 3-0 lead heading into the break. The shots were 12-7 in favour of Flint.

In the second period, the Firebirds would score on a rebound at 8:30 minutes into the period to take a 4-0 lead. The Spitfires would respond with a goal of their own on the powerplay to cut into the lead. On the powerplay, Woodall got the puck at his own blue line and sent it up the middle to Greentree. He went in on a partial breakaway and scored on the backhand for his 2nd of the preseason. Late in the frame, the Spitfires would score 4 on 4 to bring the deficit to 2. Greentree found Castle and he shot it five-hole for the goal. The Spitfires trailed 4-2 on the scoreboard and 25-18 in shots after 40 minutes.

In the third period, the Spitfires would strike just under nine minutes into the frame. A seeing eye shot from Winegard at the point found its way into the net. Unfortunately, the Firebirds would respond 30 seconds later to take a 5-3 lead. A few minutes later, the Firebirds would score to make it 6-3 on a powerplay. Flint would add an empty netter with under a minute to go. That would do it and the Spitfires would fall to 1-3-0 in preseason play.

The Spitfires are back in action for their final preseason game on Saturday vs the Sarnia Sting. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
