North Shore Spirit News Release
The New Haven County Cutters ended the North Shore Spirit's four game winning streak Thursday night with a thrilling 5-4 victory.
Nick Rowland (2-0) picked up the win in relief for the Cutters. Wayne Hedden (0-1) suffered the loss. North Shore got a strong performance from stater Jake Mullis. Mullis went 7 1/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits.
New Haven jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to solo homeruns from Darren Ciraco and Derrick Gibson. The Spirit battled back in the third. Stephen Carter leadoff with a double and scored two batters later on a Marcos Agramonte double. Vic Davilla would drive home Agramonte with a sacrifice fly to left field.
The two teams would trade single runs in the fourth. Gisbson struck again for New Haven, this time with an RBI double. North Shore quickly responded as Travis Oglesby doubled and score on an Alex Trezza groundout.
The Cutters would grab the lead again in the sixth. With one out, Mike O'Keefe walked and advance to third on a Bill Peavey double. Jeff Brooks then hit a slow roller to short that plated O'Keefe and gave New Haven the 4-3 advantage.
Agramonte pulled the Spirit even in the seventh with his third hit of the game. With two down and runners on the corners, Agramonte slammed an Alexander fastball into centerfield for the RBI basehit.
The game stayed tied until the ninth when New Haven's Keto Anderson delivered a single to right that plated Andy Larned with the game-winning run.
