Spirit Select Misiak, Hauser in 2022 CHL Import Draft

Saginaw, MI - The Saginaw Spirit completed the 2022 CHL Import Draft Friday morning by making two selections in center Martin Misiak (Me-she-ak) from Slovakia and right wing Petr Hauser from Czechia.

Misiak, 17, became the highest Import pick in the history of the Spirit when Saginaw selected the 6-foot-2, 195-pound center with the second overall pick. His late 2004 birthday makes Misiak eligible for the 2023 NHL Draft. Misiak played in Slovakia's top professional league during the 2021-22 season, scoring four goals and six assists for 10 points in 46 games for HC Nove Zamky. He also played internationally for the Slovakian Under-18 Team in the Division 1A World Junior Championships scoring five points in five games.

Hauser, 18, was selected by the Spirit with the 62nd overall pick in the Import Draft. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound native of the Czech Republic appeared in 41 games this season for HC Sparta Praha Under-20 Team, scoring 25 goals and 34 assists for 59 points. This earned Hauser a call-up to the Czech second professional league, where he appeared in 15 games for HC Stadion Litomerice scoring one goal and one assist. Hauser was also named to the Czechia Under-20 World Junior Team. The late 2003 birthday is eligible for the 2022 NHL Draft scheduled for July 7 & 8 in Montreal, Que.

"As an organization, we are very pleased to add the playing rights of Martin Misiak and Petr Hauser to our roster," said Spirit General Manager Dave Drinkill. "With (Pavel) Mintyukov and (Matyas) Sapovaliv both ranked as potential first round NHL picks, it allowed us the opportunity to make two selections in this year's Import draft. We chose to take that opportunity today. I want to welcome both Martin and Petr to the Spirit family."
