
Spirit offense produces in 7-2 win over 67's

Ottawa, ON) The Saginaw Spirit beat the Ottawa 67's 7-2 in Ottawa Sunday afternoon. The Spirit offense tallied 47 shots, with four players each posting 3 points in the game. Thomas Zaborsky notched 2 goals and 1 assist, Joe Pleckaitis 1 goal and 2 assists, Jack Combs 1 goal and 2 assists and Brad Smith 3 assists. The win gives Saginaw 13 points and moves their record to 5-4-2-1.
Spirit winger Joe Pleckaitis gave the Spirit an early 1-0 lead with a goal at 1:42 in the first period. Center Jack Combs and winger Brad Smith assisted on the goal; it was Pleckaitis' first goal in Spirit uniform. Ottawa answered with a power play goal at 13:35 in the period from center Ryan Martindale, assisted by winger Matthieu Methot and defenseman Martin Paryzek. Saginaw's Tomas Zaborsky (NYR) moved the score to 2-1 with a goal at the 15:38 mark, assisted by center Tyler Murovich and Smith.
Ottawa opened the second period by tying up the game 2-2, courtesy a goal from center Michael Latta. Center Thomas Kiriakou and defenseman Radim Ostricil assisted. The game would remain tied until the third period.
The Spirit went on a scoring frenzy in the third period, notching 5 consecutive goals. Winger Jordan Szwarz tallied his second of the season, with assists from Zaborsky and center Ryan McDonough, at 3:34 in the third. Combs would scored at 5:26 in the period, taking the score to 4-2; Smith and Pleckaitis tallied the assists. Murovich would tally his fifth goal of the weekend at the 8:12 mark in the third, assisted by Pleckaitis. Winger Jason McDonough, assisted by Szwarz and Combs, notched a goal at 9:49 in the period to take the game to 6-2. Zaborsky rounded out the scoring at 17:00 in the third to seal the game 7-2. Defenseman Nick Crawford assisted on the goal. Netminder Parker Van Buskirk stopped 23 of 25 shots in Saginaw's net; Ottawa's Adam Courchaine tallied 42 saves on 49 shots. The Spirit take on the Sarnia Sting in Sarnia on Friday, October 26th, then returns to action in Saginaw at TheDow Event Center on Saturday, October 27th against the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors at 7:11 PM. The Spirit host the Niagara Ice Dogs on Sunday, October 28th, with a 2:00 PM match-up.
