Saginaw Spirit News Release
Saginaw, MI - The Saginaw Spirit host the Guelph Storm Saturday night at The Dow Event Center for 'Hometown Heroes Night' presented by CAN Council and Yeo & Yeo CPA's and Business Consultants. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The team will wear an "Ugly Sweater" jersey that will be auctioned off following the conclusion of the game.
The Spirit were shut out Thursday night by their rival Flint Firebirds in 3-0 defeat at The Dow Event Center. It was the first time the Spirit were shut out in 51 games, dating back to Dec. 7, 2019, when they lost by the same score to the Windsor Spitfires at The Dow.
New York Islanders prospect Tristan Lennox kept the Spirit in the game with a solid goaltending performance, making 21 saves in his return to the nets after missing the previous five games with an undisclosed ailment.
The Storm had their four-game winning streak halted Friday night in the Soo in a 7-2 loss to the West Division-leading Greyhounds. Guelph gave up a season-high, five goals in the opening period and was unable to recover against the Hounds high-powered offense. Anaheim Ducks prospect Sasha Pastujov and Vegas Golden Knights prospect Daniil Chayka had the goals for the Storm in the losing effort. The Greyhounds received a four-point game from Calgary Flames prospect Rory Kerins, earning first star honors.
This is the first time the Spirit and the Storm have met in a regular season game since Feb. 8, 2020. Saginaw's Cole Perfetti provided the hometown faithful with a reason to celebrate when he scored on a breakaway in overtime to give the Spirit a 3-2 victory.
The Spirit and Storm will meet a total of six times this season, a first for both franchises who have met no more than four times in each of the last 19 OHL seasons.
This is the 74th all-time regular season meeting between the Spirit and the Storm. Saginaw is 29-36-4-3 against Guelph and 18-15-1-2 all-time at The Dow Event Center against the Storm.
