Spirit Head to Flint for Thanksgiving Eve Showdown

Flint, Mich. - The Saginaw Spirit (11-7-0-1) will be on the road Wednesday, November 22nd, to take on the Flint Firebirds (10-9-1-1) for their fourth matchup this year at the Dort Financial Center. This installment of the Coors Light I-75 Divide Cup arrives with the Spirit holding a 2-1 series lead.

Last Time:

Saginaw traveled to Niagara and walked away with a 3-2 victory over the IceDogs on November 18th. Hunter Haight and Zayne Parekh both scored their 7th goals of the season with Rodwin Dionicio scoring his first goal with the Spirit. Hunter Haight, Rodwin Dionicio, and Calem Mangone all earned assists, and Michael Misa won first star honors with a trio of helpers. Andrew Oke started in net and made 23 saves on 25 shots on goal for his fifth consecutive victory.

Flint traveled to Sarnia to defeat the Sting, 5-1, on November 19th. Zacharie Giroux and Gavin Hayes both scored two goals with Coulson Pitre scoring on an empty net with seconds left in the game. Giroux, Gavin Hayes, Blake Smith, Simon Slavicek, and Kaden Pitre were all credited with assists. Nathan Day stopped 23 of 24 shots for his eighth win of the season.

Last Matchup:

Saginaw is 2-1 so far this season against Flint after a 6-2 victory on November 8th at the Dow Event Center. Zayne Parekh scored his first career hat-trick, and Liam Storch scored his first goal of the season. Matyas Sapovaliv and Braden Haché added goals in that game as well. Braeden Kressler scored both Firebirds goals. Andrew Oke started in net for Saginaw making 27 saves on 29 shots while Nathan Day and Jacob Brown split goaltending duties for the Firebirds.

Players to Watch:

Michael Misa (10G, 13A), Zayne Parekh (7G, 16A), Rodwin Dionicio (6G, 17A), and Hunter Haight (7G, 16A) all share the team scoring lead with 23 points apiece. Michael Misa leads the team in goals with ten while Rodwin Dionicio leads the team in assists with 17. Andrew Oke leads Saginaw goaltenders with eight wins, a 2.56 goals against average (GAA) and a .909 save percentage (SV%). Oke has won each of his last five starts, holding a 1.80 GAA and .939 SV% in that time.

Gavin Hayes leads the Firebirds in goals with 14 and is tied with Zacharie Giroux for most points with 24. Zacharie Giroux also leads the team in assists with 14. Braeden Kressler (10G, 13A) is second in points on the team with 23. Nathan Day leads Flint goaltenders with seven wins, a 3.93 GAA and .867 SV%.

Saginaw currently has seven (7) players with ties to the National Hockey League (NHL), including Joey Willis (Nashville), Matyas Sapovaliv (Vegas), Hunter Haight (Minnesota), Ethan Hay (Tampa Bay), Braden Haché (Florida), Rodwin Dionicio (Anaheim) and Nolan Lalonde (Columbus, FA).

Flint currently has five (5) players drafted or signed to NHL teams, including Coulson Pitre (Anaheim), Braeden Kressler (Toronto, FA), Gavin Hayes (Chicago), Tristan Bertucci (Dallas), and Nathan Day (Edmonton).
