This morning, kids packed into The Dow Event Center to participate in Education Day Sponsored by Dow Chemical, Duperon, Covenant & Dow Corning! Spirit scoring was spread out amongst Steven Strong, David Perklin, Vincent Trocheck and Garret Ross.
The energy that both the fans and players had in the first period was incredible. The Whalers scored the first goal of the game, off the stick of Stefan Noesen. His goal was assisted by Cody Payne. At 8:48 in to the first period, Steven Strong scored the first goal for the Spirit. His slap shot was assisted by Josh Shalla and Garret Ross. The rest of the period consisted of back and forth play by the two teams.
It was not until 5 minutes left in the second period that the Spirit took the lead. Whalers goalie Scott Wedgewood left the net wide open for David Perklin to score his first goal of his OHL career! Assisting were fellow rookies Jimmy Lodge and Nick Moutrey. The Whalers scored a goal of their own when J.T. Miller found the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2. Vince Trocheck would then shoot one past Wedgewood shortly after, with assists to Eric Locke and Steven Strong. The period would end with the Spirit up 3-2.
The third period started off with a goal scored by Garret Ross from Justin Kea. Halfway through the period, the Whalers scored their third goal with a shot by Chris Albertini assisted by Beau Schmitz. Alex Aleardi tied up the score to be 4-4 when he received a pass from Austin Levi and beat Clint Windsor in the Spirit net. With just under 4 minutes left to play in the game, Michael Whaley scored to put the Whalers up 5-4. When the Spirit pulled Clint Windsor with the last few seconds to play, Alex Aleardi scored an empty netter which sealed the win for Plymouth. The final score rested at 6-4 Whalers over Spirit.
