
Spirit battle Whalers in 4-3 Overtime Loss

(Saginaw, MI) The Saginaw Spirit lost in overtime to the Plymouth Whalers 4-3 Wednesday night. Spirit center Jack Combs contributed one goal and two assists in the effort. The Spirit now have 65 points and move their record to 30-18-1-4 for the season.
Spirit center Jack Combs scored the first goal of the game 28 seconds into the first period, assisted by center Tyler Murovich. Whaler center Chris Terry responded with an unassisted powerplay goal, tying the score 1-1 at the 6:16 mark. The Spirit jumped ahead with a powerplay goal at 18:18, scored by winger Chris Chappell. Assisting on the play was center Jack Combs and defenseman T.J. Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES). The Spirit finished the first period ahead, 2-1.
Defenseman Nick Crawford (NHL BUFFALO SABRES) tallied up another powerplay goal for the Spirit at 10:53 into the second period. Assisting Crawford was winger Chris Chappell and center Jack Combs. Plymouth winger Ryan Hayes found the net, scoring a powerplay goal at 15:12 with an assist from fellow winger R.J. Mahalak. The period ended with the Spirit keeping the lead 3-2.
Center Chris Terry scored his second goal of the game for the Whalers at 12:16, tying the game 3-3. Center Vern Cooper and defenseman Leo Jenner were credited with the assists. The game rushed into overtime after ending three periods in a tie, 3-3. Whaler center Tyler Seguin capped off scoring with the winning goal at 3:57 in overtime with assists coming from wingers A.J. Jenks and Ryan Hayes. The game ended in overtime with Plymouth ahead, 4-3.
Saginaw goalie Edward Pasquale finished the game with 31saves and Plymouth netminder Matt Hackett posted 24 saves.

The Spirit are away this weekend playing in Kitchener on Friday, February 13 at 7:30 PM and in Bellville on Saturday, February 14 at 7:15 PM.
