Spirit 6 Goal Strike Downs Sting

(Sarnia, ON) The Saginaw Spirit dropped the Sarnia Sting 6-1 Friday night, following a strong offensive effort that saw goal scoring from six different Spirit skaters. Jordan Skellett earned the games first star with a goal and two assists, while T.J. Brodie's three assists netted him the games third star honors. Goalie Edward Pasquale turned aside 35 of Sarnia 36 shots on goal. The win advances Saginaw's record of 9-4-2-0, good for 20 points and fourth place in the OHL Western Conference.

The Spirit jumped to an early lead after center Ivan Telegin scored his eighth goal of the season at 4:34 in the first. Wingers Jordan Skellett and Josh Shalla assisted on the goal. Sarnia winger Craig Hottot evened the score moments later with an unassisted goal at the 12:48 mark, but the Spirit quickly responded to close out the first period with a 2-1 lead. Skellett posted what would become the game winning goal at 16:54 in the first, courtesy assists from Telegin and defenseman T.J. Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES).

The Sting's fate would be sealed in the next two periods when the Spirit put up an additional four goals. Shalla tallied his thirteenth of the season 1:19 into the second thanks to an assist from T.J. Brodie, then winger Jordan Szwarz (NHL PHOENIX COYOTES) moved the score to 4-1 with a goal assisted by center Tyler Murovich at the 13:15 mark.

Murovich followed with a power play goal in the third period. Defenseman Brad Walch and Szwarz assisted on the goal, which came at 12:21 in the third. Winger Joe Pleckaitis added a goal at 12:36 in the period thanks to an assist from Skellett, taking the score to 6-1.

Saginaw goalie Edward Pasquale (NHL Atlanta Thrashers) posted 35 saves on 36 shots, while Sarnia's Adam Courchaine (NHL BOSTON BRUINS) tallied 22 saves on 28 shots.
