Spinners update
August 29, 2006 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Lowell Spinners News Release
Remember the Yankees Elimination Promotion the Lowell Spinners began back in February? Over 70 youth baseball teams across New England (and even one in New York!) exchanged their Yankees uniforms for Spinners gear and a chance to play at LeLacheur Park! Finally, in the last home series of the season, the Yankees come to Lowell as the Spinners aim to knock the Yankees out of first place.
Wednesday begins the festivities with an Uncut Card Sheet Giveaway to the first 1,500 fans in the ballpark, sponsored by Pepsi and the Nashua Telegraph, Royal Caribbean Cruise, Garavanian Travel, Brigham's, A.J. Wright and CDM. The uncut sheet features Joshua Papelbon, Kristofer Johnson, Justin Masterson, Dustin Richardson, Bryce Cox, Bubba Bell, Aaron Bates and most of the current roster. These are keepsakes and wonderful for autographs. Get in line early to make sure you take one home.
Then on Thursday it's Keith Foulke Bobblehead Giveaway for the first 1,500 fans, sponsored by MA/Com and Sports Fan Attic. You'll want to line up early for this two-time Spinners rehabber, the man on the mound when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004.
Then on Friday, the Spinners close out their home schedule with Jersey Off the Back Night, sponsored by MRI Center of New England. Lowell will wear special Red Sox jerseys and the starting nine jerseys will be given away at the game. The rest of the team's jerseys will be available at a charitable silent auction on the concourse. It will be a special Red Sox/Yankees treat as the teams' uniforms will read "Red Sox" and "Yankees" for the final home game of the season at LeLacheur Park.
SPINNERS REPRESENT LOWELL IN NYPL ALL-STAR GAME
Two Lowell Spinners represented Thread Sox Nation at the second annual New York-Penn League All-Star Game on August 16 in Aberdeen. Catcher Luis Exposito and outfielder Zach Daeges took their games to the home of the IronBirds in a battle between AL-affiliated ballclubs and NL-affiliated ballclubs.
And it was the American League team that won, 4-1, aided by Exposito's solid work behind the plate as the AL's starting catcher. Meanwhile, Daeges walked and scored the winning run in the 6th. Both have been hot since the All-Star break.
SPINNERS ROMP AT FENWAY PARK
The Spinners took to Fenway Park for a first of it's kind game at the famed stadium. As part of a "Futures at Fenway" double-header with the Pawtucket Red Sox, over 30,000 fans packed the Fens for a wonderful day of baseball. Best of all, the Spinners and PawSox won, sweeping the double-header for the Red Sox.
The game was broadcast on NESN and world-wide over the internet. If you want a glimpse of what the game was like, follow the link below to check out the archived footage on MinorLeagueBaseball.com.
