Spikes Even Up Series with 11-7 Win over Jammers

JAMESTOWN, NY - Nine hits, 13 walks and two errors added up to the State College Spikes' highest run total of the season as they defeated the Jamestown Jammers, 11-7, on Tuesday night at Russell Diethrick Park.

Chase Lyles smashed his second home run of the year, a two-run blast to left, in the first inning to give the Spikes (6-6) their initial lead. After Kyle Saukko's sacrifice fly in the second, State College took advantage of three straight walks, a balk, a passed ball, two wild pitches and an RBI triple from Gift Ngoepe to string together four more runs in the third inning.

The Spikes added four more when Jamestown (7-5) reliever Bobby Holmes walked six straight batters to start the fourth inning. Saukko added a groundout to finish the State College scoring.

Adalberto Santos reached base five times in the game, including a double and three walks. Santos and Lyles each scored five runs as well. Ngoepe also swiped his league-leading sixth base in the eighth inning as the Spikes knotted the season series at 2-2.

Mitch Fienemann (1-1) picked up the win for the Spikes with three-and-two-thirds innings of relief for starter Zack Dodson. Fienemann allowed five runs, four of them earned, on five hits and a walk while striking out three. Dodson struck out four and walked four in three innings of work.

Jammers starter Josh Hodges (1-1) took the loss, allowing seven runs, six of them earned, on six hits and four walks in two-plus innings. Holmes was held liable for four runs as well in his fourth-inning stint.

Aaron Senne was Jamestown's offensive star of the game, going 3-for-4 with five runs batted in and a three-run homer in the seventh inning.

Wednesday, the Spikes and Jammers face off in the final game of their three-game series, scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Russell Diethrick Park. State College will send right-hander Brooks Pounders (1-1) out for his third start. Pounders went five innings, the longest tenure of Spikes starter in 2010, for his first win of the season on Friday against Jamestown. The Jammers will counter with a right-handed, though as yet unnamed, starter.
