Brooklyn Aviators News Release
BROOKLYN, New York - The Brooklyn Aviators collected their second straight win as they defeated the Cape Cod Bluefins, 6-3, on Thursday night in Federal Hockey League action at the Aviator Sports and Events Center.
Brooklyn cashed in on three power play goals in the game to help fuel their offense in the win over Cape Cod.
Newcomer Peter Drikos gave Brooklyn the 1-0 lead 5:15 into the opening period on his first goal of the season. Aviators forward Steve Koich threw a pass in front that found Drikos streaking through on the far side, and the defenseman buried the puck over the right pad of Cape Cod netminder Chris Testa. The Bluefins tied it late with 46-seconds left in the first on Kevin McCready's 13th tally of the year.
Brooklyn started the second period with a quick goal from rookie forward Jordan Bernier, his seventh of the season, on the power play at the 3:14 spot. Bernier took the pass from A's goalie Jo St. Pierre, broke in on the left wing side and snapped the puck over the right pad of Testa. Another newcomer lit the limp for the Aviators, as Brendan Baumgartner collected his first marker for Brooklyn with 10:51 left in the middle period, which also came on the man advantage. The Bluefins cut the deficit to one at 3-2 after Matt Cooke netted his first of the year at the 13:26 mark.
Ken Trentowski, Matt Atsoff and Jesse Felten all tallied for Brooklyn in the third period, which helped the Aviators cruise to their third victory over the Bluefins.
St. Pierre stopped 31 shots en route to his fifth win as an Aviator, as Testa is nabbed with the loss despite turning aside 34 shots.
The Aviators close out the week with another matchup against the Bluefins on Friday night at the Aviator Sports and Events Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35 PM and can be viewed live via the FHL broadcast network, powered by LiveSportsVideo.com.
