Odessa Jackalopes News Release
ODESSA, TX - After taking a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, the Odessa Jackalopes gave up four unanswered power-play goals the rest of the way to drop a 4-1 decision to the Wenatchee Wild Friday at Ector County Coliseum in Odessa. With the loss, the Jacks fell to 9-13-4 on the season and will look for revenge on Saturday in their fourth and final meeting with the Wenatchee Wild this season.
The Jacks took an early lead at 10:08 of the first period on Josh Obregon's fourth goal of the season and first in a Jackalopes uniform, an even-strength transition marker assisted by Tyler Poulsen and Curt Rau. Wenatchee was quick to respond however, as the Wild tied the game just five minutes later on the first of four power-play goals scored by Wenatchee in the game.
Deadlocked at one entering the second period, the Jackalopes' penalty kill never found traction in the middle frame, surrendering back-to-back-to-back power-play goals to a Wenatchee man-up unit that entered Friday's action with the best road power-play percentage of any team in the NAHL this season, converting at a nearly 29% clip.
Jacks netminder Connor Hellebuyck held strong in the third period, holding the Wild scoreless and finishing the game with 21 saves on 25 shots on goal. With the loss, Hellebuyck fell to 8-10-4 on the season in his 22nd start of 2011-12.
Friday marks the first time this season that the Jackalopes have lost a game in regulation in which they scored the first goal of the contest (6-1-1) and Friday was just the third time that Odessa has lost a game in which they outshot their opponent (4-3-0) all year long. Next up for the Jacks, it's the finale of a six-game homestand, a Saturday showdown with Wenatchee in the second of two straight games against the Wild at Ector County Coliseum.
The Odessa Jackalopes celebrate their 15th Anniversary in 2011-12 and drop the puck on their inaugural campaign as a member of the North American Hockey League. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-7825 or by visiting the Jacks online at www.jackalopes.org.
