Sparrow named offensive player of the week

Wichita, Kan. - arenafootball2 and the Wichita Stealth announced today that Aaron Sparrow has been named the Baby Ruth Real Deal Player of the Week for his performance last week in the 68-53 Stealth victory over the Green Bay Blizzard. Sparrow set a Stealth franchise record with his 382 yards passing on the night. He finished the night 29-of-44 for 382 yards and eight touchdowns while throwing no interceptions. This marked the eighth best passing game in af2 history.
Sparrow (6-2, 210, Norfolk State) begins his third season in af2 and was named the af2 Player of the Year in 2000 when he was with the Augusta Stallions. This marks Sparrow's fourth time as an af2 weekly award winner. In 2000, he was named the Player of the Week three times. He has thrown for 8,041 yards and 150 touchdowns in his 36 game af2 career.
Sparrow currently sets 7th in the af2 in pass rating (113.0), 5th in passing yards per game (258.8), and 2nd in total offense (1,034 yards).
Sparrow becomes the sixth Stealth player to ever be named an af2 weekly award winner. Last season, Lee Vaughn and Brian Livingston were named ADT Defensive Players of the Week.
"Aaron turned in one of the best performances I have ever seen by a quarterback," said Stealth head coach Sean Ponder. "He put the football in the right place and took advantage of the coverages that the defense threw at him."
STEALTH NOTES: After this week's bye, the Stealth will hit the road for three weeks when they travel to face the Rio Grande Valley Dorados on May 8th, the Quad City Steamwheelers on May 15th, and the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz on May 22nd.The next Stealth home game is set for May 29th versus the Laredo Law.
