Salem Red Sox News Release
SALEM, VA - Behind the Jeremy Wu-Yelland's strong outing, the Salem Red Sox explode offensively behind the bat of Nick Northcut. The Red Sox (41-29) win their fifth straight game and down the Nationals (22-48) for the fourth time this series.
Stephen Scott led off the scoring for the Red Sox in Friday night's win over Fredericksburg with an RBI single in the bottom of the first. Following a Nick Decker single to load the bases, Nick Northcut hit a towering grand slam down the left field line to give Salem a 5-0 lead.
The Red Sox would tack on two more in the next two innings on an RBI groundout from Stephen Scott and Angel Maita reaching on an error scoring Nick Northcut.
After being no-hit in the first six innings, the Nationals' bats came alive in the seventh. With the bases loaded Braian Fernandez grounded into a force out scoring Junior Martinez. Jake Boone, and Paul Witt shot RBI singles into the outfield for a pair of runs, and Matthew Lugo committed an error at shortstop to bring in four for Fredericksburg in the seventh.
The Red Sox pitching would bear down in the eighth and ninth putting up zeros and giving the Red Sox a 7-4 win. Salem and Fredericksburg will take their fourth series of the season to game five at 6:05 PM Saturday night.
