Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

For the fifth consecutive year, Ryan Mitchell will pitch in an Amarillo baseball uniform. Mitchell was signed to a veteran contract by the Amarillo Sox Baseball Club Thursday. After spending time in the Houston Astros organization, Mitchell bounced around independent baseball before finding a home in the Texas Panhandle.

Mitchell started with the Amarillo Dillas of United League Baseball in 2010, going 5-3 with a 4.29 ERA for the eventual ULB Champion Dillas. Since 2011, Mitchell has been in the starting rotation for the Amarillo Sox. In three seasons, he's gone 22-18 with a 4.78 ERA. In 2013, he had a team high 9 wins and a 4.07 ERA. He's pitched at least 100 innings in each of the last four seasons.

"We're thrilled to have Ryan back. He's a guy that you can pencil him in your rotation, and you know you're going to get 130-140 innings every year," said Sox field manager Bobby Brown. "He's a bit of a slow starter, but once he hits his stride he'll carry the team for 2-3 weeks at a time. Every time he goes out you know you can win the game."
