Great Falls Voyagers News Release
Great Falls, MT - Tonight the Great Falls White Sox defeated the Casper Rockies 5-1 at Centene Stadium. Nick Lemon (1-2) picked up the win for the Sox as he worked a perfect eighth inning. The loss went to Sean Ruthven (1-1) as he worked one inning, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits.
Great Falls scored first in the first inning, as Matt Tribble doubled home Brandon Johnson to put the Sox up 1-0. In the top of the second, the Casper Rockies scored an unearned run when two errors lead to Trevor Allen scoring on an RBI hit by Dexter Fowler.
From there the pitching was almost untouchable. Paul Moviel, the Sox starter, went seven innings allowing only that one unearned run on five hits while striking out eight. He also finished the game with an unofficial 102 pitches, 66 for strikes. Rockies starter Alan Johnson was to Moviel's equal, as he worked six innings giving up that lone first inning run on only four hits.
Great Falls would get help from Casper in the eighth inning. Still tied 1-1, Garrett Guest scored from third base when Manny Rodriguez hit a groundball through the legs of Dan Mayora to put the Sox up. The next batter, Francisco Hernandez, hit a homerun over the right field wall to extend the lead. Daron Roberts later scored on a Javier Castillo groundout and the Sox went up 5-1. They would win by the same score.
Tomorrow night the Sox will open up a three game weekend series with the Idaho Falls Chukars. The starters for the game are: Yunior Novoa (LHP) for Great Falls and Rusty Begneaud (RHP) for Idaho Falls. Game time is at 7:00pm and can be heard on 560AM-KMON starting at 6:45.
