July 8, 2021 - Northwest League (NWL)
Everett AquaSox News Release

EUGENE, Ore. - The Everett AquaSox (35-19) scored four runs in each the first and third inning while starting pitcher Matt Brash struck out a career high 11 hitters on the way to a 10-2 victory over the Eugene Emeralds (34-21).

HOW IT HAPPENED

The AquaSox scored the game's first run in the opening frame when Kaden Polcovich was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Zach DeLoach. Jack Larsen cleared the bases one batter later with a three-run double to give the AquaSox a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

The 'Sox struck again in the third inning, scoring four more runs with a triple from Polcovich, a double from Larsen and singles from Connor Hoover and DeLoach. This second wave of scoring extended the Frogs' lead, 8-0.

Eugene was finally able to get on the board with a Sean Roby solo home run in the fourth inning. Everett put up two more runs in the sixth inning when Carter Bins' double scored Patrick Frick and Austin Shenton, giving the 'Sox their biggest lead of the night, 10-1.

The Emeralds would get one final run in the bottom of the sixth inning when catcher Ricardo Genoves hit a ground rule double that scored Armani Smith. Both bullpens threw three scoreless innings to close out the game.

WRAPPING IT UP

The AquaSox scored double figures for the 13th time this season and are undefeated when scoring 10 runs or more. The other five teams in the High-A West League have combined for 18 double digit games, with a record of 17-1. The AquaSox 15-10 victory over Vancouver at Funko Field on June 29 is the only time a team has scored 10 runs in a loss.

Brash pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs, three walks and 11 strikeouts. The AquaSox bullpen was also outstanding as Igor Januario, Kyle Hill and Dayeison Arias combined to throw 3.1 hitless innings, walking only one batter and striking out four.

Bins, Larsen and Polcovich each reached base three times and had two extra base hits. Bins finished 2-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. Larsen was 2-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, a run and four RBIs. Polcovich was 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, two RBI and was also hit by a pitch. DeLoach was 3-for-5 and moved into the league lead with a .304 batting average. The AquaSox boast five of the six High-A West players that have scored 40 runs or more this season: Polcovich (46), Shenton (46), DeLoach (45), Bins (41) and Frick (40).
