Sox hold on, defeat Billings 5-4

Great Falls, MT Tonight the Great Falls White Sox defeat the Billings Mustangs 5-4 at Centene Stadium. Noe Rodriguez (2-5) picked up the win for the Sox as he worked five innings, allowing two runs on four hits. The save went to Jay Marshall (6) as worked three innings, allowing two runs on three hits. The loss went to Jeff Stevens (4-4) as he worked four innings, allowing three runs on five hits.

The Mustangs jumped on the scoreboard first in the second inning on a Kenny Lewis RBI hit to bring home Jay Bruce. Billings would then increase the lead in the fifth inning on JD Reininger?s RBI single to score Brandon Roberts. Billings was up 2-0.

In the bottom of the fifth the Sox showed signs of life. Evan Tartaglia had a two run single before he was brought in by a Rolando Acosta single. Two batters later, Manny Rodriguez added a sacrifice fly to put the Sox up 4-2. They added another run in the eight on a Daron Roberts sac fly.

The eighth inning run proved to be vital as Billings was able to get a two-run homerun by Eric Eymann to bring the Mustangs within one. However, Marshall was able to get the last two batters to end the game and give the Sox a 5-4 win.

In the game, Evan Tartaglia extended his hitting streak to 11 games, Acosta to 8 games, and Francisco Hernandez to 7 games.

Tomorrow night the Sox will play their final home game of the 2005 season. It will also be the fourth game of a four game series with the Billings Mustangs. The starters for the game are: Yunior Novoa (LHP) for Great Falls and Travis Wood (LHP) for Billings. Game time is at 7:00pm and can be heard on 560AM-KMON starting at 6:45.
