Bristol White Sox News Release

The Bristol White Sox dropped 3-2 and 5-2 decisions to the Elizabethton Twins as part of a doubleheader at Boyce Cox Field.

In game one, the Twins scored first in the top of the second when Josh Hendricks grounded into a double play that scored Adam Walker. The Twins scored their second run as Niko Goodrum scored on a Sox throwing error. The Twins added their third run of the game when Walker scored on a Byron Buxton double to make the score 3-0. The Sox plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a Steve Nikorak single, but the Sox comeback fell short.

Walker led the Twins in game one with two hits and two runs. Nikorak led the Sox with two RBIs. Angel Mata improved to 4-2 on the season, while Jake Cose fell to 1-5 for the Sox.

In game two, it was the same story as the first game as the Twins scored early and often. The Twins scored four runs in the first three innings, with the third inning highlighted by a two-run double by Walker.

The Sox finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning as Eric Grabe led off the inning with a double and came around to score on a groundout. Trailing 4-1, the Sox added another run in the bottom of the fifth when Nikorak scored on a Kale Kiser sacrifice fly to left field. The Twins added another run in the top of the seventh to seal the sweep of the twin bill.

Chris Mazza picked up his first professional win for the Twins in game two and David Haselden took the loss for the Sox. Travis Harrison went three-for-three for the Twins with a double and a run scored. Grabe collected two hits for the Sox.

The 13-31 Sox will take the 33-15 Twins tomorrow August 11 on Back To School Night at Boyce Cox Field. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
