Sox drop home opener, 7-2

The Bristol White Sox opened up the 2012 season with a 7-2 loss to the visiting Bluefield Blue Jays.

Jake Cose took the mound for the White Sox; Cose was hit hard early and often. The Blue Jays jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Christian Lopes launched a two-run homerun over the scoreboard in left field.

The Blue Jays added four more runs in the top of the third inning to take a 6-0 lead over the White Sox.

The White Sox finally picked up their first hit of the game in the fourth inning when Joey DeMichele led off the inning with a base hit and Joe DePinto followed up with a RBI single.

Local product Daniel Norris took the mound for the Blue Jays in the fifth inning and pitched four scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

The White Sox added their second run of the game in the bottom of the ninth with three consecutive walks to score their second run of the game. Former USC quarterback and current White Sox pitcher Mitch Mustain pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

Norris picked up the victory for the Blue Jays and Cose took the loss for the White Sox.

The White Sox will host the Blue Jays tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. at Boyce Cox Field.
