June 19, 2012 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Bristol White Sox News Release
The Bristol White Sox will show movies at Boyce Cox Field following the conclusion of two of their home games this season.
"Moneyball," the 2011 Oscar-nominated story of Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane's attempt to assemble a baseball team using computer-generated sabermetric analysis, will be shown about 30 minutes after the conclusion of the July 3 game against the Johnson City Cardinals.
The classic "Field of Dreams," another Oscar-nominated baseball film, starring Kevin Costner and James Earl Jones, will be shown on August 17, following a game against the Pulaski Mariners.
The movies are sponsored by BVU OptiNet.
"BVU is excited to be a part of these movies at the ballpark," said Gail Childress, BVU's Director of Community Outreach. "Where else would you rather be in a small town, on a warm summer night, than at a White Sox ballgame, with your family."
The Bristol White Sox, also known as the Bristol Sox, are operated by Bristol Baseball, Incorporated, a non-profit organization operated by an all-volunteer Board which has no full-time paid staff.
"We are excited to be able to offer these attractions to our fans and to the residents of Bristol," said Mahlon Luttrell, President of Bristol Baseball, Incorporated and General Manager for the White Sox. "These additions to our busy promotional schedule should make Bristol Sox baseball even better for our fans this summer. We are thankful to the BVU OptiNet for its support of these movies, of our team and our organization."
