May 10, 2009 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Nashville Sounds News Release

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds return home to Greer Stadium this Tuesday to open an eight-game homestand, during which they'll host series against the Reno Aces (AAA-Diamondbacks) and Las Vegas 51s (AAA-Blue Jays).

Highlighting the week's worth of promotions will be two postgame fireworks shows, two giveaways, as well as two Reading Clubs Days that will feature stands packed with area schoolchildren in attendance as a reward for reaching their reading goals as part of the Sounds Reading Club program.

As a new PCL franchise replacing the Tucson Sidewinders, the Reno Aces - managed by longtime Major League outfielder and former Atlanta Brave Brett Butler - will make their first trip to Music City to face the Sounds for Tuesday's 7:00 p.m. homestand opener. Tuesday is also Tunica Tuesday. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.

The next game of the series with the Aces will take place on Wednesday during an 11:00 a.m. morning game at Greer Stadium, as thousands of screaming kids will be in attendance for the first Reading Club Day of the homestand. With more than 120,000 students from over 400 different schools enrolled in the program, it should be an exciting day at the ballpark. All students will be eligible to win prizes if they have reached "Home Plate" in the program. Gates open at 9:30 a.m.

Thursday's 7:00 game will be the third game of the series with Reno, and the first 2,500 fans will receive a premium hat as they enter. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.

Friday night's 7:00 p.m. game will offer another chance for kids to win prizes on the second Reading Club Day of the homestand. Participating students will receive free admission to the game, as well as the chance to take part in an on-field, pre-game parade with Ozzie. A dazzling fireworks display will immediately follow the game. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.

Now as the new affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, the Las Vegas 51s of the Pacific Southern Division will make their only visit to Greer Stadium in 2009 on Saturday to open a four-game series with the Sounds at 6:00 p.m. Another spectacular postgame fireworks show will follow the action on the field. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.

Sunday's afternoon game against Las Vegas will be at 2:00 p.m., with gates opening at 12:30 p.m. The first 1,500 kids, 12 & under, will receive a premium mini bat as they enter the gates. It will be a Purity Sundae Sunday where ice cream sundaes are $1 at Greer Stadium. Also it's Lance Family Sunday, where fans have the opportunity to receive two tickets for the price of one. A pre-game autograph session will take place on field with members of the Sounds team and coaching staff.

Sunday will also be Teacher Appreciation Day. All teachers, school staff, and administrators presenting a school ID (or school pay stub) at the box office will receive up to four free tickets for the game.

Monday's 6:00 p.m. game will be the third game of the series with the 51s. Monday is Red Hot Chicago Dollar Dog Night, when hot dogs are only $1 at concession stands. It is also Pigeon Forge Night, where Pigeon Forge T-Shirts and Prize Packs will be available to lucky fans during the game. Fans will be provided entry cards for a chance to win a weekend getaway to Pigeon Forge. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.

The Sounds wrap up their eight-game homestand on Tuesday evening with the series finale against Las Vegas at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday is also Tunica Tuesday. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.

Following the homestand, Nashville will travel to Portland and Tacoma for an eight-day road trip before returning to Greer Stadium on May 29 for a pair of series against the division-rival Omaha Royals and Iowa Cubs.
