Iowa Cubs News Release
The Iowa Cubs blew past the Memphis Redbirds 9-2 Sunday afternoon at Principal Park.
Matt Camp and Chris Robinson each posted three RBI Sunday while Sam Fuld crossed the plate four times to help the Cubs past the Redbirds.
After a two-run first inning, starting pitcher Mitch Atkins (2-3) did not allow a run in his next six innings of work to earn the win. Atkins struck out six, walked one and allowed two runs on four hits.
Down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the first inning, Jason Dubois singled and drove in Fuld to cut the lead 2-1. Iowa then took a 3-2 lead in the third inning when Fuld singled and scored on Camp's two-run homer to right. It was Camp's first homer with Iowa.
The Cubs scored another run in the fifth inning when Fuld, who was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, tripled and was driven in on Camp's RBI groundout for a 4-2 lead.
Brad Snyder led off the sixth inning with a solo home run over the centerfield wall and Robinson scored on Andres Blanco's groundout to add to Iowa's advantage. The Cubs posted another three runs for the 9-2 final in the seventh inning when Robinson kept up his hitting barrage with a bases-loaded triple. Robinson was 3-for-4 and stole a base on the day.
Memphis' Clayton Mortensen was tagged with the loss, giving up six runs on nine hits in six innings of work.
The Cubs and Redbirds meet for the final game of this series Monday at 12:05 p.m.
