Sounders FC Travels to the Portland Timbers on Sunday for Cascadia Clash
May 11, 2024 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Seattle Sounders FC News Release
RENTON, WASH. - Following a penalty kick shootout win over Louisville City FC in the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32, Seattle Sounders FC returns to MLS action to take on archrival Portland Timbers on Sunday, May 12 at Providence Park (1:45 p.m. PT, Apple TV - Watch Free, FOX, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
Sunday's match is the first meeting between the two sides this year. The MLS regular season series between the clubs currently sits at an even 14-14-9 since 2011. Dating back to 1975 when both teams were in the NASL, Seattle leads the all-time series 56-46-17.
Sounders FC striker Raúl Ruidíaz has 12 MLS goals (regular season and playoffs) against Portland since joining Seattle in 2018, the most goals against the Oregon side of any player in MLS history. His three postseason strikes versus the Timbers are also the most of any player in league history and is one of only two players to score multiple goals against Portland in the playoffs.
The match marks the second fixture for Seattle in its quest for the 2024 Cascadia Cup, a regional competition between Seattle, Portland and Vancouver. Vancouver currently leads the standings with six points, with Seattle and Portland tied with zero points.
Following Sunday's matchup, Seattle travels to face Real Salt Lake in a midweek matchup on Wednesday, May 15 at America First Field (6:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, iHeartMedia Seattle, El Rey 1360 AM).
