Sound look to feast on competition
November 24, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Strong Island Sound News Release
Patchogue, NY. Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, football, crowded malls and a refrigerator full of leftovers. You can add professional basketball to the list. The Strong Island Sound will be "home for the holidays" and host two games this weekend of exciting ABA action at Suffolk Community College in Selden.
If you can pick yourself off the couch after your Thanksgiving meal and all that holiday shopping, then there is only one place to be on Friday night at 730pm. The first-place Sound will be waiting for the Maryland Nighthawks at the end of the tunnel. It was only less than a week ago that these two teams met in Rockville, MD and the Sound defeated the 'Hawks by a score of 131-123.
Maryland, a playoff team in 2005-06, is currently in second place with a 2-3 record. They have dropped two in a row, going down to the defending ABA champion Rochester Razorsharks the night before meeting the Sound.
Another familiar team will also be making its first trip to Long Island this season on Sat, Nov 25 at 7pm. The Newark Express will look to knock off the Sound after Strong Island went into Essex County College and came away with a close fought 99-98 win. The Express, also a playoff team last season, have started off slowly with a 1-3 record. Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
