Soul Playoff Picture - Week 15

June 6, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Philadelphia Soul News Release

The time of the season has come to start scoreboard watching and since the Soul are in the mist of the playoff hunt, there is reason to pay attention.

Philadelphia is currently in the sixth position in the National Conference and only six teams make the postseason. Also, their final three regular season opponents are in the same predicament. It might sound like the Blue and Grey have their hands full, but don't think they are the only ones.

With the Dallas Desperados (12-1) and Georgia Force (11-2) both clinching playoff births, four spots are open for the taking. Three of those teams have the same record entering Week 15. The Columbus Destroyers and Tampa Bay Storm are each sitting even with the Soul at 6-7. In the standings, the Storm are ahead of the Destroyers because they defeated them earlier this season putting them ahead of the Soul since the Destroyers took one from Philadelphia in Week 8.

This all might sound a little confusing, but the next few weeks will tell the story.

The main games Soul fans should be keeping their eyes on include the Destroyers and the Storm to go along with the Orlando Predators, New York Dragons, Austin Wranglers and New Orleans VooDoo. You may be asking yourself...Why the Wranglers and VooDoo? The answer is simple...They are both still in the playoff picture with 4-9 records and play playoff contenders to finish off the regular season.

So let's break down each team Philadelphia needs to worry about and what they have in store coming up.

First off, the Predators since they are in the three position. They have a 7-6 record and are entering this week's game against the Dragons on a two game losing streak. After this week, they face a tough Georgia team before coming to the City of Brotherly Love to take on the Soul in Week 17. Tickets for that game are on sale by calling 215-636-0421.

In the four spot, the Storm take on the Soul this Saturday night in Tampa Bay with the game being played on AFLNet and replayed on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. on Comcast Sportsnet. The next two weeks see the Storm traveling to Grand Rapids to take on the Rampage and then going back home to face the Wranglers.

Columbus is in the fifth position, but have lost three games in a row and play an underrated Kansas City Brigade (8-5) team this week in Ohio for their final regular season home game. That game will be on AFLNet on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. They will then travel the next two weeks beginning with the much anticipated rematch against the Soul in Week 16 before traveling to New York to close out the regular season.

Philadelphia rounds out the current six playoff bound teams in the National Conference and face the already mentioned Storm, Destroyers and Predators in order.

As for the Dragons, the return of Aaron Garcia has them surging with a 4-2 record since coming back to the lineup from a broken leg. Although, their final three games are not going to be easy since they face Orlando, Dallas and Columbus. They will play host to the Predators and Destroyers, but have to travel to take on the Desperados in Week 16.

The Wranglers gave themselves some life last week with a demolishing of the Dragons (82-54) in New York and have people raising their eyebrows. They have a difficult road to make the playoffs, but after seeing what they did last week...anything is possible. This week they will see the Force come to town before traveling to New Orleans and Tampa Bay. Their game against Georgia will be on AFLNet Saturday night at 8:30 p.m.

New Orleans may be considered a long shot, yet they are still in the picture so they need to be mentioned. They have lost six games in a row and travel to Dallas this week before they see the Wranglers next week. In the final week of the season, they will venture to Georgia.
