Soul partner with local charities

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Soul will partner with a local non-profit organization each home game to collect donations and raise awareness for the various causes supported in Philadelphia.

* On Sunday, January 29, when the Soul play host to the Tampa Bay Storm, Operation Warm will be conducting a coat drive. Operation Warm works to enhance the self-esteem of disadvantaged children by providing new winter coats; thereby, promoting a positive self-image and fostering the conviction that says, "I am of value."

* Against the Los Angeles Avengers on Sunday, February 5, the People Emergency Center (PEC) will help conduct the first Baby Soul Clothing Drive. Fans will be asked to donate baby clothes to abused and abandoned babies in the Tri-State area. PEC is the oldest and most comprehensive agency serving homeless women, teen girls, and their dependent children in Pennsylvania. Since 1972, PEC has helped thousands of abused, abandoned and homeless women and children to rebuild lives of dignity through programs that help them to help themselves.

* When the Soul face the New York Dragons on Sunday, February 19, fans will be asked to bring in used cell phones to be donated to a charity that will be decided at a later date.

* Philadelphia Reads will orchestrate a book drive on Sunday, February 26, when the Soul play host to the defending ArenaBowl champion Colorado Crush. The central focus of Philadelphia Reads is to have every child reading at or above grade level by the end of third grade. Philadelphia Reads works hard to fulfill this mission through a variety of programs, special initiatives, activities and resources.

* On Friday, March 31, when the Austin Wranglers come to town, the Soul will encourage fans to come to the game with new socks to be donated to Covenant House. Covenant House is the largest privately-funded childcare agency in the United States providing shelter and service to homeless and runaway youth.

* In the following week on Sunday, April 9, the Soul will host its first Pet Food Drive with Pet Aid when the Chicago Rush come to town. PET AID is an organization whose goal is to assist in providing for the safety and welfare of animals in the event of a disaster by integrating the into the overall local emergency response plan.

* When the Columbus Destroyers come to Philadelphia on Friday, April 21, the Soul will be holding its third annual Teddy Bear Drive to support the Philadelphia Children's Alliance. The Philadelphia Children's Alliance acts to create a coordinated multi-agency, interdisciplinary response to cases of child sexual abuse to promote healing and justice for all victims.

* In the final home game of the season against the Dallas Desperados on Saturday, May 6, the Soul will conduct video messages for the troops oversees. Taping will take place on the concourse level.

The Soul kickoff their third season in the AFL on January 29, 2006 when they host the Tampa Bay Storm at the Wachovia Center. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. Season tickets for the Soul's 2006 season are on sale now. Tickets start as low as $96.
