 Chicago Rush News Release
Chicago Rush head coach Mike Hohensee announced today he has named Matt D'Orazio the team's starting quarterback.
"Matt has done a good job all through camp and deserves to get the chance," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "He has been very consistent and has done everything you could ask of a quarterback to get ready to play. I think the team is ready to follow him."
"I am excited about the opportunity Coach Ho is giving me," said D'Orazio. "I am grateful to be playing for a great organization and with very talented teammates. I plan on doing everything I can to reward the faith that Coach Ho has shown in me."
D'Orazio (6-4, 230, Otterbein) spent the past three seasons with the Buffalo and Columbus Destroyers. Last season he played in 13 games for Columbus, completing 205 of 324 passes for 2,268 yards, 40 touchdowns and just six interceptions. In addition, D'Orazio finished the year tied with Bob McMillen for seventh in the AFL in rushing, gaining 178 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. Prior to his time in Columbus, D'Orazio played with the Milwaukee Mustangs (2000), New Jersey Gladiators (2001) and the af2's Rochester Brigade (2002).
The Rush and the AFL will celebrate 20 seasons of fan-friendly football when Chicago opens the 2006 season at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 29, in Denver against John Elway's defending-champion Colorado Crush. The Rush home opener is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 3, against the New York Dragons.
