Soul Offense & Defense Battle in Camp Scrimmage

March 1, 2011 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Philadelphia Soul News Release

PHILADELPHIA (March 1, 2011) - The Philadelphia Soul offense and defense squared off against one another for an intra-team scrimmage held during the last hour of training camp at the NovaCare Complex. Offensively, quarterback Justin Allgood (6-2, 240, Central Oklahoma) and wide receiver Larry Brackins (6-4, 221, Pearl River C.C.) connected several times down field while the defensive line applied consistent pressure in the backfield.

'DP' MAKES IT EASY! Defensive back Derek Pegues (5-10, 200, Mississippi State) led today's highlights with an interception. He jumped in front of a pass thrown down the center of the field and broke several tackles for a gain before eventually being taken down. Pegues played on the practice squad of the Chicago Bears in the NFL (2009) and was a three-time All-SEC (2006-08) and Second-Team All-Southeastern Conference (2006) performer during his collegiate career for the Bulldogs.

DID YOU KNOW Soul Head Coach Mike Hohensee was a member of the 1987 Chicago Bears where he was coached by NFL Hall of Famer and current Chicago Rush owner Mike Ditka. Hohensee later coached the Rush for nine seasons (2001-08, '10) to a 93-64 record. One of his teammates on that squad was current New Orleans Saints' head coach Sean Payton.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "I hope Pittsburgh's ready. That's the only thing I can say is that I hope they're ready because I know we definitely will be with the coaching staff we have. Coach Hohensee is at the helm, along with Coach Bo [Bogle], Coach Netto [Purnsley], and Coach Klebe, putting together a package that I honestly feel will be unstoppable." - Darrell Campbell, defensive lineman, on the Soul's Week-1 matchup against the Pittsburgh Power (Friday, March 11 at 8 p.m. - NFL Network).
