Soul Come Up Empty Against Dragons, 69-49

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Soul dropped its sixth straight game on Monday night to the hands of the New York Dragons in front of 14,101 fans at the Wachovia Center, 69-49.

Philadelphia began the game with a big play when Todd France kicked the ball off the iron and watched it bounce around until Aric Williams was able to recover it in the endzone. Following a France extra-point, the Soul had a 7-0 lead until New York's DaShane Dennis took the ensuing kickoff 57-yards for a touchdown to tie up the score at 7-7.

The Soul put one more touchdown on the board in the first quarter, but watched the Dragons score 20 unanswered to close out the quarter with a 27-14 advantage.

The second quarter continued with an array of touchdowns by both teams as each team posted 21 points a piece and went into the locker room with the Dragons ahead 48-35. The 83 combined points tallied by both teams set a Soul franchise record.

During the third quarter, the Soul suffered another devastating loss as quarterback Juston Wood went down with a sprained left knee and did not return to the game. Backup quarterback Leon Murray came in for the remainder of the contest and started with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Charles Pauley. At the end of three, New York was leading 55-42.

In the final quarter, Philadelphia was unable to contain the Dragons offense as New York took advantage and went on to score two more times to finish the Soul's hopes of snapping their five-game losing streak.

New York's Aaron Garcia finished the game 22-of-34 for 264 yards with eight touchdowns and no interceptions. He connected with Mike Horacek seven times for 140 yards with two touchdowns and Kevin Swayne nine times for 83 yards with four scores.

For the Soul, Wood connected on 17-of-30 for 204 yards with four touchdowns despite one interception. Murray came in and completed 6-of-18 for 85 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.
