Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA - On Saturday, May 5, as the Philadelphia Soul take on the Kansas City Brigade, Covenant House Pennsylvania, brought to you by ProBuild, will be holding its second annual New Sock Drive to provide support to homeless youth. Last year, the New Sock Drive was a great success, providing socks for underprivileged children in Philadelphia.
Those who wish to donate can drop off new socks at one of our two collecting stations located at the Broad Street and 11th Street entrances inside the Wachovia Center.
Covenant House Pennsylvania (CHPA), one of the most recent affiliates of Covenant House, was established in Philadelphia in 1999. Services began with a Community Outreach Center that worked predominately with street youth. Young people were offered a place to eat, do laundry and get referrals for more complex needs such as housing and medical care. Immediately it became obvious that they needed to expand services due to the large number of homeless youth who came to our doors with no place to go. In addition to food, shelter, clothing and crisis care, Covenant House provides a variety of services to homeless youth including health care, education, vocational preparation, drug abuse treatment and prevention programs, legal services, recreation, mother/child programs, transitional living programs, street outreach and aftercare.
