
Sophia Young Signs Contract Extension

SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio Silver Stars forward Sophia Young has signed a multi-year contract extension, head coach and general manager Dan Hughes announced today. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"We are so pleased to announce that Sophia Young will continue to bring her outstanding play to the Silver Stars into the future," Hughes said. "Her play and leadership this year has been an example of what Sophia has brought us game in and game out for the past seven years and we are so glad to go into the future with Sophia in the Silver & Black."
A three-time WNBA All-Star selection (2006, 2007 and 2009), Young was originally selected by the Silver Stars with the fourth overall pick in the 2006 Draft out of Baylor University. During her seven seasons, Young has made her mark on the Silver Stars career record books, owning the franchise records in games played (255), started (255), minutes played (8,245), field goals made (1,546), free throws made (919), total rebounds (1626), steals (428) and points (3,630).
A three-time All-WNBA selection and 2008 WNBA All-Defensive team honoree, Young ranks 13th all-time in points per game (15.6) and steals per game (1.71).
The Silver Stars will make their sixth-consecutive WNBA Playoff appearance against the Los Angeles Sparks in the Western Conference Semifinals beginning on Thursday, Sept. 27 in Los Angeles. The Silver Stars host the Sparks in Game 2 of the best-of-three series on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. in the Freeman Coliseum.
