Eagles return to the friendly confines of Pullar Stadium

It's been over a month, but the Soo Eagles will finally be at home this upcoming weekend, as they entertain the Michigan Warriors this Saturday and Sunday night, starting at 7:30 pm at Pullar Stadium.

This is the Warriors first trip to Sault Ste. Marie. The Eagles are 3-0 against Michigan this season, with all three victories coming in Flint.

It is Veteran's Appreciation Weekend. All Military personal with a CAC Card, or Military ID, will get into the game for only $5.00. It's our way of giving back to so many that do, each and every day. On Saturday there will also be a Deer Hunter's Ball and Skate with the Eagles after the game. Sunday is Kids Night Out. Kids 12 and under get into the game free, with a paying adult. The first 100 fans attending Sunday's game, will receive a free Eagles shopping bag.

Intermission activities include a Nerf gun shooting contest on Saturday, and Madeline Rutledge, from the Detroit Skating Club, with a performance on Sunday. And of course, the fan favorite chuck-a-puck both nights.

Eagles end long road trip 6-1-1

The Soo Eagles ended their 4-week, 4-city, 8-game road trip this past weekend on a winning note, collecting a 4-1 victory Saturday night over the Springfield Jr. Blues. Despite dropping Friday night's contest in Springfield, the Eagles collected 13-of-16 points on the road trip, and solidified their hold on second place in the North American Hockey League's North Division.

Here is a recap of last weekend's action.

Springfield Jr. Blues 5, Soo Eagles 3 - Friday, November 9, 2012 The Springfield Jr. Blues gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Soo Eagles.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Jack Sloan's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

James McGing had two goals to lead Springfield to victory. McGing scored at 13:18 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 9:29 into the second to make the score 3-3.

The Jr. Blues found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Springfield has scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign. The Jr. Blues' offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.4 shots per game they average. Springfield was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 26 penalty minutes.

Nate Chasteen also scored for Springfield. In addition, Springfield received assists from Trevor Stone, Parker Johnson, Mike Fazio, and Alex Baskakov, who each chipped in one and Mitch Rogge, Brett Skibba, and Ryan Atkinson, who contributed two a piece.

Soo failed to reach its usual level of shot production, putting 20 pucks on goal after averaging 26.7 shots per game this season. The Eagles gave up more goals than its normal season average. Soo averages 2.3 goals allowed per game.

The Eagles were helped by Chris Waterstreet, who racked up one goal. Waterstreet scored on the power play 9:19 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Soo. A checking from behind penalty on Johnson had put Soo on the power play. Denver Pierce picked up the assist. Soo also got a goal from Dante Suffredini as well. More assists for Soo came via Cody Von Reuden, Michael Lant, and Jared VanWormer, who each chipped in one.

Matt Leon made 17 saves for the Jr. Blues on 20 shots. Springfield registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Tyler Marble rejected 30 shots on goal for the Eagles. Soo incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.

Soo Eagles 5, Springfield Jr. Blues 2 - Saturday, November 10, 2012 Eric Rivard had one goal and two assists to lead the Soo Eagles to a 5-2 victory over the Springfield Jr. Blues.

Rivard beat Ryan Kellenberger with a shot 8:19 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Soo. Jared VanWormer picked up the assist. Rivard dished an assist on Cody Von Reuden's goal that made the score 1-0 Soo at 45 seconds into the first period. He added another helper on Michael Lant's goal that made the score 5-2 Soo at 15:28 into the third period.

The defensemen of Soo were also effective in Springfield's zone, and came away with two goals. The 51 shots that the Eagles put on net surpassed Soo's average of 26.3 shots per game this season.

Soo also got a goal from Alexander Taulien as well. More assists for Soo came via Michael Covach, Matt Menta, and Denver Pierce, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Blues stifled the Eagles' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Springfield's offense was clicking better than usual and put 42 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.4 shots per game it averages.

The Jr. Blues were helped by Alex Baskakov, who finished with one goal and one assist. Baskakov scored 13:13 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Soo. Nate Chasteen assisted on the tally. Springfield also got points from Chasteen, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Springfield received assists from Terry Leibo and Mike Fazio, who each chipped in one.

Zach Nagelvoort rejected 40 shots on goal for Soo. The Eagles incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Springfield's Kellenberger stopped 46 shots out of the 51 that he faced. The Jr. Blues incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.

Michael is a '94 birth year forward from Shillington, Pennsylvania. He stands 5-11 and weighs 195 pounds. Michael has made an immediate impact for the Eagles, since being acquired from Janesville in September. He currently has 9 goals and 5 assists in 14 games for the Eagles and is a very impressive +11.
