Somerset Patriots News Release
Sugar Land, Texas - The Somerset Patriots (20-15) were out-muscled in an 11-6 loss to the Sugar Land Skeeters (23-14) Saturday night at Constellation Field.
Somerset struck first on an Edwin Espinal RBI groundout in the top of the third to take an early lead. Sugar Land took control an inning later, however, on a two-out, three-run home run from Zach Borenstein (3).
The Patriots rallied to take the lead in the ensuing half inning. Will Kengor's two-out RBI single tied the game before Craig Massey gave Somerset the lead on a two-out RBI single.
Sugar Land answered with five unearned runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead. A two-out Kengor fielding error tied the game before Juan Silverio (5) launched a grand slam to put the Skeeters in front.
Somerset got a couple of runs back in the top of the sixth on a Gabriel Bracamonte (1) two-run shot to left, but the Skeeters would respond again in the next half inning. A Jason Martinson (3) solo home run extended Sugar Land's lead to 9-6 in the home half of the sixth.
The Skeeters topped off the scoring with a run-scoring double play groundout in the seventh and a Jared Mitchell two-out RBI triple in the eighth.
Michael Mariot (3-0) earned the win after allowing four runs (three earned) over five innings. Liam O'Sullivan (1-3) yielded six runs (three earned) over four and two-thirds innings to take the loss.
Somerset and Sugar Land conclude their seven-game series Sunday night. Southpaw David Holmberg (0-1, 4.01 ERA) takes the mound for the Patriots against Skeeters' right-hander Troy Scribner (0-0, 3.52 ERA). First pitch at Constellation Field is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET (6:05 p.m. CT).
