
Sold-out 11th Annual United Celebrity Golf Tournament raises more than $40,000

Washington, D.C. (June 26, 2012) - United for D.C., the charitable arm of D.C. United, announced today that the sold-out 11th Annual United Celebrity Golf Tournament, supported by Cushman & Wakefield, raised more than $40,000. Proceeds from the event benefit the charity's three signature programs - United Reads, Kicks for Kids and United Soccer Club - all of which use soccer to place an emphasis on literacy, healthy lifestyles and life skills for underserved youth in the greater Metropolitan Area. "This year's tournament was a smashing success," said United for D.C. Executive Director Aprile Pritchet. "We are extremely grateful for the support of our sponsors, participants and celebrities for their role in the event and we look forward to gathering again next year."
The event drew nearly 180 golfers to 1757 Golf Club in Dulles, Va. for a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start on Tuesday, June 19. Guests enjoyed 18 holes of golf, numerous hole contests, featuring Volkswagen's offer of a car for a hole in one, a silent auction, and an awards reception.
The foursome from Queen Vic won the tournament, with KMG Hauling, featuring D.C. United legendary forward Jaime Moreno, finishing second. First Home Mortgage, featuring Former United goalkeeper and assistant coach Mark Simpson and midfielder Perry Kitchen, placed third in the event.

Ladies' Longest Drive Contest: Sara Hubbard, played with The Magellan Group
Men's Longest Drive Contest: Rickie Piland, played with KMG Hauling
Closest to the Pin Contest: Strick Heilman, played with First Home Mortgage
Putting Contest: David Moretti, played with EDJ Associates
Participants in this year's tournament played alongside current D.C. United players and coaches as well as United President and CEO Kevin Payne, General Manager Dave Kasper and a host of local sports and media personalities.
