San Diego Sockers News Release
The San Diego Sockers travel to Texas to renew an old rivalry with the Dallas Sidekicks on Saturday, November 17. The Sockers and Sidekicks were foes in the Major Indoor Soccer League during the 80s and 90s, and then again the 2010s in the Premier Arena Soccer League and MASL. Dallas returns to the league after a one-year hiatus. The teams will meet twice during the regular season.
San Diego opened training camp on Monday with a roster comprised returning veterans, Sockers 2 (M2 Arena League) players and many new faces. The roster for the preseason game will be a blend of all three.
On Wednesday, the team was involved in a major four-player trade with rival Ontario, which was highlighted by the Sockers acquiring top scorer Leonardo De Oliveira, and solid defender Juan Gonzalez. In return, the Fury received 2017-18 MASL Goalkeeper of the Year Chris Toth, and second-year forward Andy Lorei. The overhauled and talented roster will make this one of the most competitive training camps in recent history.
