
Sockers Travel East To Face Blast

San Diego Sockers News Release
The San Diego Sockers make their first trip to the East Coast to face the Baltimore Blast, Friday at 4:35 p.m. It marks the first meeting between the two teams this season and the return of former Blast defender and current Sockers Sean Bowers.
The Sockers will return to San Diego, next Saturday to face the Philadelphia KiXX at 7 p.m.
About the Opponent
Holding second place in the Eastern Division, the Baltimore Blast go into tonight's game with a 4-3 record. This is the first meeting between the two teams this season.
- Denison Cabral leads the Blast with nine goals and 12 points.
- Former Socker Carlos "Chile" Farias leads the team with eight assists.
- Wendell Regis' seven blocks top the team, followed by Neil Gilbert, Dewan Bader and Billy Nelson with six blocks each.
A win would:
- Take the Sockers to a three-game winning streak, the longest since 2001.
- Be the third win against the Baltimore Blast in the new MISL.
A loss would:
- Halt the longest winning streak for the Sockers this season.
- Mark Sean Bowers first loss against his former team, since winning the 2002-03 MISL Championship.
Last Time: Kansas City 3 at San Diego 6
The San Diego Sockers scored more goals in the first quarter than they have in any other game this season, and walked away with a 6-3 win over the Kansas City Comets.
- The win gives the Sockers their first two-game winning streak of the season.
- Both Sean Bowers and Paul Wright scored two goals each in the win.
- Gaston Pernia led the defensive brigade with three blocks.
- Victor Nogueira earned the win with 16 saves.
Let's Trade
In off-season trades, the Sockers acquired Sean Bowers for Carlos "Chile" Farias. Farias leads the Blast with eight assists, while Bowers leads the Sockers with seven blocks.
Nogueira, Bowers Earn MISL Honors
The Major Indoor Soccer League announced that Victor Nogueira and Sean Bowers won Goalkeeper and Defender of the Week, respectively, for the week ending November 9, 2003.
- Nogueira won his first two games of the season against Dallas (3-1) and Kansas City (6-3). He totaled 28 saves in the two games.
- Bowers earned Defender of the Week with four blocks and two goals.
Beware of Streakers
The Sockers are on a two-game winning streak and have several players who are currently working on streaks of their own.
- Paul Wright has scored a goal or grabbed an assist in every game he has played in this season.
- Kevin Sakuda and Robbie Aristodemo have played in every game dating back to last season. Both players are at 43 games each.
- Mark Ughy just halted a streak of his own. Up until the Nov, 9 game against the Comets, he had scored a goal or grabbed an assist in every game this season.
The Power of Bowers
The Sockers defender is eighth all-time with 914 blocks and is only six blocks from moving into seventh.
New Playoff Format
The MISL has adopted a new playoff format that expands the League Finals to a best-of-five series that will be featured on Fox Sports World. Six of the nine teams will have the opportunity at the championship, with the top teams in each division receiving an automatic bid. Remaining slots are filled by three teams with the best regular-season record. The first two rounds remain single elimination.
