Sockers Trade Goalkeeper for All-Star Forward

(San Diego- May 19, 2003)- San Diego Sockers General Manager and Head Coach Brian Quinn announced today that the Sockers have traded goalkeeper Deszo "DJ" Horvath for Kansas City Comets forward Nino DaSilva. Per team policy, terms of the trade were not disclosed.

DaSilva, 23, played three years in Kansas City (KC Comets 2001-03, KC Attack 2000-01). During the 2002-03 season, he totaled 37 goals and 16 assists earning a spot on the MISL All-Star Team. In 2001-02 DaSilva continued his scoring with 76 points (40G-36A), including five game-winning goals. As the 2000-01 National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) Rookie of the Year, he totaled 38 goals and 32 assists for 70 points.

"Nino is a player that I have coveted for quite awhile. He will provide us with another scoring threat as he is a natural goal scorer," said Quinn. "He is a player that our fans will enjoy and will fit in nicely with our squad."

Horvath, 32, played two years with San Diego. During the 2002-03 season, the Hungarian native totaled 187 saves in 15 games played, for a 13.19 points against average. In the 2001 World Indoor Soccer League (WISL) season, Horvath registered 317 saves for a 13-8 record.
