San Diego Sockers News Release

Philadelphia, Penn – The San Diego Sockers were held scoreless by goalkeeper Peter Pappas and the Philadelphia Kixx before 4,238 fans at Wachovia Spectrum in a 5-0 Socker's loss. The loss dropped the Sockers(9-10) one and a half games behind the Western Division leading Dallas Sidekicks, who are inactive this weekend.

The only score of the first half of action came 4:49 into the second quarter behind a Don D'Ambra strike on an assist from Goran Vasic. The Sockers created numerous opportunities in the first half of action, but Pappas continued to come up with the key saves.

The third quarter of play saw D'Ambra tally his second of the night at 11:50 of the quarter. Once again Vasic made the pass to D'Ambra on the goal. Vasic leads the league in assist now with 22 in 17 games.

The fourth quarter saw three goals, unfortunately none of them for the Sockers. D'Ambra capped his night with his third at 3:58 of the fourth. Matt Brooks got in on the scoring at 5:18 to give the Kixx a 4-0 advantage, and Mauricio Vincello sealed it with a goal at 13:58 of the period.

Socker's goalkeeper takes the loss in goal after saving six shots on 10 shots faced. Meanwhile Peter Pappas was stellar on 16 shots saved.

The Sockers return home to face the Kansas City Comets next Friday, January 24. The kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the first 4,000 fans will receive Victor Nogueira Bobble Heads courtesy of Sleep Therapy.
