KANSAS CITY, MO. - The Cleveland Force traveled to the Show Me State for the second time this season and defeated the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Central Division Kansas City Comets by a final score of 9-7 at the Kemper Arena.
With the win, the Force improved to 6-10 overall, 3-2 versus MISL Central Division opponents, 2-0 in the season series and 3-5 on the road. With the loss, the Comets fell to 7-12 overall, 3-4 versus Eastern Division opponents and 4-6 at home.
Kansas City opened the scoring (0-1) when Jamar Beasley scored the goal off the pass from Jeff Davis at 1:50 of the first quarter. Cleveland tied the game (1-1) when Zoran Karic scored the goal off the pass from Vermilion resident Chris Dore at 3:30. The Comets regained the lead (1-2) when Miodrag Djerisilo scored the goal off the assist from Davis at 4:20. The Force tied the game for the second time (2-2) when Justin Evans found the back of the net off the assist from Karic at 5:58. Cleveland added to its lead (3-2) when Hector Marinaro scored the goal off the second assist of the game for Dore at 6:18. Kansas City tied the game for the third time (3-3) when Djerisilo found the back of the net off the pass from Davis at 9:05. The Force regained the lead and ended the first quarter scoring (4-3) when Evans scored his second goal off the assist of the game for Karic at 10:26.
The Comets tied the game for the fourth time and opened the second quarter scoring (4-4) when Franck M'Bemba scored the unassisted goal just 50 seconds into the period. Cleveland regained the lead (5-4) when Josh Timbers scored his first goal as member of the Force off the third assist from Karic at 2:38. Kansas City tied the game for the fifth time (5-5) when Djerisilo scored the shoot out and power play goal at 4:44. The Comets regained the lead (6-5) when Brian Soell scored the power play goal off the assist from Djerisilo at 5:24. Cleveland tied the game for the sixth time (6-6) when Timbers scored his second goal of the game off the assist from Parma native and Walsh Jesuit graduate Adam Campellone at 12:30.
Kansas City regained the lead and opened the second half scoring (6-7) when Soell scored the power play goal off the fourth assist of the game for Davis at 6:27 of the third quarter. The Force tied the game for the seventh time (7-7) when Marinaro scored the power play goal off the fourth assist of the game for Karic at 9:46. Cleveland regained the lead (8-7) when John Ball scored the restart goal on the volley kick off the fifth assist of the game for Karic at 10:25. The Force added to its lead (9-7) when Marinaro recorded his first hat trick of the season off the season-high sixth assist for Karic on the restart at 12:15. With the sixth assist, Zoran went over the 2,100 career-point total.
The two teams battled to a scoreless fourth quarter.
Cleveland will play host to the MISL Central Division Milwaukee Wave in the first game of a home and home weekend series with the Wave on Friday, January 23 at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University.
