San Diego Sockers News Release
TURLOCK, CA - Brian Farber, Aaron Susi and Evan McNeley scored in the third quarter to erase a halftime deficit as the San Diego Sockers rallied past the Turlock Express 6-3, earning their first win of the 2013-14 Professional Arena Soccer League season. The Sockers (1-2) will take on the Sacramento Surge (0-4) on Saturday night looking to even their record after an 0-2 start.ïÿý
Trailing 2-1 after a first half filled with strange calls and penalties, the Sockers got a break when Brian Farber's shot in the defensive crease caromed off the Turlock keeper and defender Martyn Arista for an equalizing goal. Team captain Aaron Susi followed with his first goal of the season 39 seconds later, finishing a clever pass from Chiky Luna (goal, two assists) to give San Diego the lead for good.ïÿý
The Sockers changed up their starting formations and an ineffective power play tonight, with head coach Phil Salvagio inserting Evan McNeley into the midfield and the power play unit. McNeley responded by finishing a back post feed from Eduardo Velez to put San Diego ahead 4-2 with 1:56 remaining in the third, cashing in a six fouls man advantage.ïÿý
Kraig Chiles, Raymundo Reza and Luna also scored goals for San Diego. Sockers keeper Chris Toth was credited with 15 saves, earning his first win of the year.
Martyn Arista found the back of the net twice for Turlock (2-1), with Herb Garzon adding his team-best fifth goal of the year. Express forward Adrian Gutierrez was ejected from the game with 11:50 to play in the second quarter after taking a red card for elbowing Velez.ïÿý
San Diego continues a four game road trip on Saturday night when they take on the Sacramento Surge at 7:05pm from the state capital. The game will be webstreamed live and free of charge (audio and video feeds) on www.sockers.com.
