San Diego Sockers News Release

The San Diego Sockers announced today that anyone who brings a donated item to the November 6 game against the Dallas Sidekicks will receive a free ticket to the game. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Sports Arena.

The San Diego Sockers management, staff and players have been directly affected by the San Diego wildfires, from evacuation to the destruction of property. The Sockers donated more than 3,000 meals and soccer balls to victims of the wildfires earlier this week.

"We are trying to do what we can to help the members of our community.. The public will not only have the chance to donate, but to also come together in a way that only San Diegans know how," said Sockers Head Coach Brian Quinn. "Bring a can, get a ticket."

Acceptable donated items include food (non-perishable), unwrapped toys and cash contributions. Monetary donations will be given to the Salvation Army's Fire Victim Fund, while food and other donations will be collected by Father Joe's Village and distributed to wildfire victims.

The Scripps Ranch Old Pros, featuring Sockers legends Cha Cha Namdar and George Katakalidis, will play in a halftime game against members of the media.

The Sockers postponed their game scheduled for this Friday against the Monterrey Fury at the Sports Arena, but will travel to face Dallas, Saturday, Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. (PST).
